The New School of Music is proud to announce the formation of two new choirs, specializing in Balkan music from Bulgaria and neighboring regions. Singers of all levels of musical and cultural background are welcome!

Children’s Choir: ages 7-13.
Adult and Teen Choir: ages 14 and up.
No prior foreign language or formal singing experience is required.

Balkan Family Choirs:

Students will learn how to sing traditional Balkan music styles: the basics of vocal technique, breath control and singing support, pitch support, irregular rhythms, range, dissonance in Balkan music.  Create ornaments you’ve never experienced! Work on the differences between traditional and classical (bel canto) styles. Learn simple songs and dances in different rhythms, using simple harmonies and unison voices. Sing both in groups and as individuals. Oral memorizing and ear training will be emphasized. Individual lessons will also be available. No prior foreign language or formal singing experience is required.
 
Spring Term: 16 weeks, February 5^th through June 10^th (no rehearsals on public school holidays). Tuition $257.

The first day of class is a free introductory class/workshop (RSVP required).

Students interested in enrolling later in the year are also invited to attend a first rehearsal for free, at any time during the school year (RSVP required).

Children’s Choir: Tuesdays 4-5 pm, for ages 7-13, with sectionals at 3:30-4 pm or 5-5:30 pm.
Children will be assigned to attend a smaller sectional rehearsal in either the half hour before or after
the full group rehearsal. Sectional times will be determined once singing parts have been assigned,
and will take into account students’ individual scheduling needs.

Adult and Teen Choir: Tuesdays 6:30-8pm, for ages 14 to adult.
