2003-2004 Free Concert Series
Welcome to the 2003-2004 Concert Season! Every third Sunday, the New School of Music has a Faculty Recital which is
free to the public. Some of these recitals have meet the artist receptions following the performance. NSM is proud
to showcase our faculty in an intimate setting and we welcome you to join us this season!

The New Piano Quartet (Ensemble in Residence) performed on September 15th.
Previous Concerts 2003-2004:
Pianist, Oni Buchanan performed Bach, Partita No. 2 in C Minor, Bartok, Six Dances
in Bulgarian Rhythm, Applebaum, Omnibus Etude, and Prokofiev, Sonata No. 2 in D Minor
Ensemble in Residence, New Piano Quartet performed Mahler, Piano Quartet, Schnittke,
Piano Quartet, and Fanny Mendelssohn, Piano Quartet
Eleanor Perrone, piano, performed Scarlatti Sonatas, Albeniz Iberia, Book 1, Chopin Mazurkas,
Op. 30, Chopin, Scherzo, Op. 39, and Gershwin, Rhapsody in Blue.

Sonata for piano and cello (Johannes Brahms), Andante and Variations (Robert Schumann), for 2 pianos, 2 celli and horn, Op. 46
Tali Morgulis, piano performed Ballade No. 2 (Liszt), Sonata No. 7 (Prokofiev), Sarabande,
Rigaudon (Rameau/Godowsky), Elegie (Tambourin), Music from Africa 23 (S. Grove), and Four Preludes (F. Martin)
New Piano Quartet, Ensemble in Residence performed Piano Quartet in C minor, op. 13 - Richard Strauss, Piano Quartet in
A minor, op. 67 - Joaquin Turina, and Piano Quartet in D Major, op. 11 - Louise Heritte-Viardot
NSM Faculty Piano Recital featured Trudi Van Slyck, piano, Esther Ning Yau, piano with special guest Chien-Ji Shaie, piano
performed Variations on a theme of Beethoven, for two pianos - Camille Saint-Saëns, En Blanc et Noir, for two pianos - Claude
Debussy, and 15 Variations on a Schubert Waltz, Book 1 - Nicholas Van Slyck.
NSM Spring Faculty Showcase featured Sandi Hammond, Singer-Songwriter,
Pei-Chun Lin, Jazz Flute, Tali Morgulis, Piano, Shu-Fang Du, Violin.
The New School of Music presented the talents of its diverse faculty in a March medley of performances. This program
included everything from Jazz flute and voice numbers to classical piano pieces and original songs.

Hummingbird: The Music of Springtime featured NSM Faculty: Elizabeth Landman, piano, and
Pei-chun Lin, flute, piccolo, piano, and special guests. The New School of Music celebrated the
talents of its faculty with an evening of classical and jazz performances. Composers included Faure, Ravel, Charles T.
Griffes, Dvorak, Purcell, Handel, Chopin, Schubert, and an original piece by Armand Qualliotine, written for the evening's
performers.

John Holland, violin, and Jing Li, cello. Quatrain performed: Mozart: Trio in C major, K. 458 for violin, cello and piano,
Stravinsky: "L'histoire du Soldat" for violin, clarinet and piano, Bruch: Romantic Pieces for clarinet, cello and piano,
Hindemith: Quartet for clarinet, violin, cello and piano

"Made in the USA" featured: Pei-Chun Lin, flute, Tali Morgulis,
piano, Esther Yau, piano. With special guests: Susanna Cortesio, violin, Kate Kayaian, cello, and
Mario Ramirez, cello. Pieces included: Danza de Jalisco for 2 pianos (A. Copland), Kaleidoscope for 2 pianos (J.
Corigliano), Trio for Flute, Cello and Piano (B. Martinu), Recuerdos (3 Traditional Latin-American Dances) for 2 pianos
(W. Bolcom), Café Music (P. Schoenfield)
