New School Singers

Looking for the chance to meet other young singers in a fun and encouraging setting? NSS is a small choir for treble voices (soprano/alto) and prepares enthusiastic young singers for serious choral and vocal performance. Students sing challenging harmonies, improve their ear training, and develop strong vocal performance techniques. The varied repertoire ranges from classical to jazz to modern, and can include several languages.

Recent performance highlights have included a Mayor's Breakfast at Cambridge City Hall, an all-jazz night at the Regattabar, a Museum of Science luncheon concert celebrating the groundbreaking of the new Northpoint T-Station, and an unforgettably moving performance of "I Never Saw Another Butterfly" for Holocaust Remembrance Day. In 2006,
NSS recorded "Sweet Water," a call-and-response song composed by Anna Huckabee Tull for the dedication of a new fresh water well in a village in Ghana that has suffered for years from "river blindness" caused by contaminated water.

In the Spring of 2007, the New School Singers performed
at McLaughlin House and visited with its residents, who are survivors of brain injury. NSS also performed a joint concert at Newton Free Library with Youth pro Musica, and a concert at NSM with guest artist Ray Greene, a well-known gospel/jazz vocalist and film and television composer.

New School Singers at Northpoint
NSS performed for over 200 people at the Museum of Science gala reception
following the ground-breaking ceremony
for the new Northpoint MBTA station.
